The Latoq I & Latoq II Expedition is an exhilarating 40-day journey deep into the Karakoram, taking you to the base of the formidable Latok Peaks. This challenging trek and climb are ideal for experienced mountaineers looking to test their skills in one of Pakistan’s most rugged and remote regions. The route takes adventurers through breathtaking glaciers, rocky moraines, and alpine pastures, making it a truly unforgettable expedition.

Essential Gear & Packing List
Mountaineering Equipment:

  • Ice axe, crampons, harness, carabiners.
  • High-altitude boots, insulated gloves, and climbing ropes.
  • Helmet, ascenders, and descenders.

Clothing & Personal Gear:

  • Down jacket (-30°C rated), base layers, and waterproof shell.
  • Sleeping bag (-40°C rated) and insulated mat.

Itinerary

Meet the expedition team and attend a briefing session. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Attend a mandatory briefing at Alpine Club of Pakistan. Final gear check and permits. Overnight stay in Islamabad.

Drive via Babusar Pass (if open) or Karakoram Highway. Lunch break in Naran. Arrive in Chilas and check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay in Chilas.

Scenic drive along the Indus River, passing through beautiful valleys. Lunch en route. Arrive in Skardu and check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay in Skardu.

Off-road jeep journey along the Shigar Valley. Cross wooden suspension bridges and high-altitude settlements. Arrive in Askole, the last village before the trek begins. Overnight camping in Askole.

Trek alongside Biafo Glacier’s snout. Enter the majestic Karakoram wilderness. Overnight camping in Namla.

Trek across moraines and glacial streams. First views of Latok Peaks towering above. Overnight camping in Mango.

Cross rocky terrain and glacier fields. Arrive at Latok Peak Base Camp, a stunning alpine location. Overnight camping at Base Camp.

Establish high camps on the mountain. Acclimatization and technical climbing progress. Attempt to summit Latok Peak (7,145m). Overnight camping at various high-altitude camps.

Retrace steps through Mango and Namla. Return to Askole and celebrate the trek. Overnight camping in Askole.

Drive back to Skardu via remote valleys and riversides. Check-in at a hotel in Skardu. Overnight stay in Skardu.

Option 1: Flight from Skardu to Islamabad (weather dependent). Option 2: 2-day drive via Karakoram Highway. Contingency days for delays. Overnight stays in Skardu and Islamabad.

Attend a mandatory Alpine Club debriefing session. Relax and explore Islamabad. Overnight stay in Islamabad.

Transfer to the airport for your return flight. End of the expedition.
