🤝 Our Partnership with Felix Foundation Baltistan
The Felix Foundation Baltistan is one of the most impactful grassroots organizations in the Hushe Valley. It was created through collaboration between local community leaders such as Shamshair Ali, Ibrahim Rustam, Akhon Ibrahim, and Rustam Ali, together with international mountaineering partners. These individuals transformed a simple idea of a climbing school into a long-term development movement for the entire valley.
The foundation works across multiple sectors including education, women empowerment, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism development. Its mission is to build a skillful and educated community in Hushe Valley, ensuring that local people benefit from sustainable growth rather than being left behind.
Through our collaboration, Machulo Treks & Tours Pakistan supports and promotes these initiatives by linking tourism directly with community development. 🎓 Education Development in Hushe Valley
Education is one of the strongest pillars of the Felix Foundation’s work in the region. The Hushe Valley historically faced very limited educational infrastructure, with low literacy rates and a lack of proper schools, especially for girls. Over the years, the foundation has worked to transform this reality by supporting schools, teacher training, and scholarship programs.
One of the most impactful initiatives includes supporting local schools in Machulo and surrounding villages, improving classroom conditions, training teachers, and ensuring children—especially girls—can continue their education beyond primary level. Scholarship programs also help students from remote communities pursue higher education in cities like Skardu and Gilgit.

Tourism is the backbone of the Hushe Valley economy, and many families depend on trekking and mountaineering seasons for income. Historically, local people worked as high-altitude porters and guides for international expeditions, building strong relationships with global climbers over decades.
Today, through collaboration between Machulo Treks & Tours Pakistan and Felix Foundation Baltistan, we aim to professionalize and strengthen these opportunities by providing training, fair employment, and sustainable income sources. Local youth are trained as guides, porters, and hospitality workers, ensuring they are not only participants in tourism but also direct beneficiaries of it.
We also support homestay development and community-based tourism models, allowing visitors to experience authentic Balti culture while directly supporting local families.

Shamshair Ali, one of the founding figures and CEO of Felix Foundation Baltistan, plays a key role in driving community development in Hushe Valley. He is part of the original group of local pioneers who transformed a climbing school initiative into a structured development organization focused on education and empowerment.
