History

In 1994, Shamshair Ali and Akhon Ibrahim, the founders of Machulo Treks and Tour Pakistan, visited Machulo to explore its natural beauty. During their exploration, they reached the top of Machulo La, a high point near the village, and were amazed to discover views of K2 and Broad Peak from there. With their vast experience in tourism and multiple visits to K2, they were able to recognize the iconic peak immediately. Excited by their discovery, they returned to the village and shared their findings with the local community, igniting interest and curiosity.

The following year, in 1995, Shamshair Ali and Akhon Ibrahim organized another visit to Machulo La, this time with a group of Spanish tourists led by Txema Camara, a well-known traveler. During this expedition, Txema captured a stunning panoramic photograph from the top, showcasing the breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks, including Nanga Parbat, K2, and Broad Peak. The group was thrilled to see such a magnificent collection of some of the world’s highest mountains from a single location.

This discovery marked the beginning of organized treks to Machulo La, which has since become a popular destination for international tourists, especially those seeking adventure and awe-inspiring mountain views. Over the years, Machulo Treks has arranged numerous trekking expeditions, attracting nature lovers and mountaineers from around the world. This initiative not only highlighted the scenic beauty of Machulo but also contributed to promoting tourism in the region, making it a significant landmark in the history of Gilgit-Baltistan’s tourism development.

The discovery and promotion of Machulo La is credited to the efforts of many people; however, Akhon Ibrahim and Shamshair Ali, the founders of Machulo Treks and Tour Pakistan, deserve the largest recognition. They were the first to recognize the significance of Machulo La as a stunning viewpoint and organized the earliest trekking groups to this location. Their pioneering efforts laid the foundation for the development of Machulo La as a key trekking destination. Over the years, they have successfully organized numerous groups, introducing both local and international tourists to the breathtaking views of peaks like K2, Broad Peak, and Nanga Parbat.
